A drone fell on the training center of the Zaporizhzhia NPP – IAEA.
IAEA experts discovered an incident with a drone at the Chernobyl NPP
Experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported an incident involving a drone falling on the roof of the training center at the station. According to Director General Rafael Grossi, the drone fell on the building but did not cause any casualties or serious damage.
This is already the third case this year where the training center became a target for a drone.
Experts are unable to determine whether the drone was shot down or fell on its own. Such incidents happen too often, and Grossi expressed serious concerns about the increasing number of them.
Simply put, there are too many drones flying near nuclear facilities, and this cannot continue.
Moreover, the IAEA reported hearing gunfire but cannot confirm whether it is related to this incident. The Ukrainian government has allocated funds for the repair of the Chernobyl NPP and assistance in reconstruction after the attack.
Increased funding for the repair of the nuclear power plant
Over 1.5 billion hryvnias have been allocated to support the shelter of the Chernobyl NPP. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced increased funding and the intention to obtain a loan from the European Investment Bank for restoration.
Funds will also be allocated for researching the damage to the New Safe Confinement. The IAEA carried out a rotation of observers at the nuclear power plant without agreement with Ukraine, emphasizing nuclear energy safety.
