About 5600 tons of contaminated water entered the Seim river
As a result of contamination by a sugar factory in the Kursk region, about 5600 tons of contaminated water entered the Seim river. The restoration of the Seim and Desna river ecosystems could take 2-3 years. Contamination continues to spread in the Desna river, approaching Kyiv. Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Oleksandr Krasnolutskyi reported that the contamination is moving towards the capital only fragmentarily, not as a whole.
It is currently unknown whether the contamination of the Seim river was intentional or the result of a sudden accident. Specialists have already started measures to localize the contamination of the Seim river in the Chernihiv region to prevent further spread.
