Network operators claim that the shutdown of the Estlink-2 line, with a capacity of 658 MW, occurred on December 25, leaving only the Estlink-1 line with a capacity of 358 MW that connects Finland and Estonia.
Fingrid reported that Estlink-2 could remain out of service for 'several months.'
Journalists from Sky News remind us that since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war, there have been many cases of cable, telecommunications line, and gas pipeline failures. The Kremlin claims that such events do not concern them much and denies any involvement in such incidents in the past.
It should be noted that on December 25, a power cable shutdown of Estlink 2 occurred in the Baltic Sea between Estonia and Finland. After that, the Finnish Border Guard detained the oil tanker Eagle S, which had left Russian Saint Petersburg. Finland believes that the vessel is related to the cable damage.
On December 27, the Finnish Customs Service detained a cargo from the tanker Eagle S, suspected of damaging the cable. It is noted that Finland continues its investigation regarding possible violations of legislation under aggravating circumstances.
