Ben Hodges named two main problems of the Ukrainian army: lack of personnel and weapons

According to ТСН: The main challenges for the Ukrainian army are the lack of personnel and the absence of long-range weapons.

According to military expert Ben Hodges, former commander of the US Army in Europe, these two problems are critical.

Lack of human resources

Hodges believes it is important for the government to earn the trust of Ukrainian families. People must be confident that men and women will not be sent to the front until they undergo proper training and receive the necessary equipment:

‘I see two key problems (of the Ukrainian army - Ed.). The first is, of course, the issue of human resources. Here the government needs to earn the trust of Ukrainian families, to prove that men and women will not be sent to the meat grinder until they are properly trained, equipped, and sent to combat-ready units. Families must be confident that their loved ones will receive training and equipment before going into battle. This is the state's duty.’

Protection of infrastructure

The second important problem is the need to protect energy and civilian infrastructure from constant attacks by Russia.

Hodges believes that effective response requires focusing on eliminating sources of threat:

‘It's better to hit the archer than to shoot down arrows.’
‘That is, destroying the launch sites of drones or their production is more important than intercepting each individual drone. And long-range means also play a key role here.’

Previously, Hodges also assessed the potential threat of a Third World War amid regular flights of Russian drones over European countries.

The problems articulated by Hodges highlight critical aspects of Ukraine's security in the current military situation. The lack of trained personnel and modern means of defense create serious challenges for effectively countering the aggressor. Targeted actions by the government to address these issues may become key to strengthening the country's defense capability.
