German court blocked the seizure of the Russian tanker-bomb: what’s next.
According to ТСН: The German Federal Fiscal Court refused to allow the seizure of the oil tanker Eventin, which is part of the Russian "shadow fleet".
The court expressed "reasonable doubts about the legality of the seizure measures" and noted that a final decision has not yet been made. There is also the question of whether the tanker can enter EU territory in emergencies.
Condition of the tanker Eventin
The tanker Eventin, with about 100,000 tons of oil on board, has been anchored off the coast of the German island of Rügen in the Baltic Sea for almost a year. The vessel was towed after a technical malfunction that rendered it uncontrollable and unable to continue its voyage.
Eventin left Russia's Ust-Luga on January 6 under the flag of Panama, headed for Port Said in Egypt, and its final destination was supposed to be India.
Environmental risks
Local ecologists and experts call Eventin a "floating ecological bomb," emphasizing the urgent need to pump out the oil to avoid a potential disaster.
The formal owner of the vessel is Laliya Shipping Corp. from the Marshall Islands, which is in a legal dispute with the EU regarding the classification of the tanker as a "shadow fleet" used by Russia to circumvent sanctions.
It is also reported that flights of unidentified drones over Germany may be related to cargo ships associated with Russia.
Additionally, it was previously reported that an oil tanker belonging to the Turkish company Beşiktaş Denizcilik is sinking off the coast of Senegal and has frequently visited Russian ports.
The situation with the tanker Eventin raises serious concerns due to possible environmental consequences and violations of sanctions. Against the backdrop of escalating international politics, the protection of the environment becomes even more urgent, as such incidents can threaten not only the environment but also security in the region. It is important to monitor the development of the situation and the court's further decisions.
