«Today is the moment we have been waiting for so long. We have overcome the last bureaucratic obstacle on our way to implementing the «congestion charge,» – said the head of the New York City Transportation Authority, Janno Lieber, to reporters.

Starting next year, a charge of $9 will be introduced for entering vehicles into central Manhattan to reduce traffic congestion. This was reported by The Hill.

Initially, it was planned to charge $15, but the amount was decided to be reduced to $9.

This decision was made due to concerns that the newly elected president, Donald Trump, would block New York's decision, as he opposes environmental measures, including the implementation of entrance fees.

The charge could still be blocked in court. A decision will be made after hearings for supporters and opponents of the plan that will take place in December.

It is worth noting that the FBI reported preventing a loud terrorist attack in the center of the country's financial system. A suspect, who called himself 'the second bin Laden,' planned an explosion in the center of New York.

Additionally, the New York authorities announced a risk of drought in the city. According to the city hall, October saw the second longest period without precipitation since 1869.
