Frostbite Cases in Soldiers Linked to Failed Hand Warmer Deliveries.
Supply Issues with Chemical Hand Warmers
According to TSN.ua: Ukrainian soldiers have suffered frostbite injuries due to a failure in the supply of chemical hand warmers. The logistics command had ordered over a million units, but the tender was awarded to a company with a lower bid, which subsequently failed to deliver. The winning bid was set at 18 hryvnias per unit instead of the expected 26, a price difference that may have compromised the contract's execution.
Dozens of servicemen with frostbite have been hospitalized, raising serious concerns among military medics and command. The supply contract was awarded to 'Private Rear Operator' LLC, even though it was initially meant to be fulfilled by MAMO, a company producing for 'ImexMax' LLC. Anatoliy Rodzinsky, a Kharkiv councilman from the OPZZh party, has alleged ties to the supplier companies, prompting further questions about the transparency of the tender process.
The Urgency of the Problem
The Defence Procurement Agency (DPA) has confirmed it will soon dispatch an additional 76,000 hand warmers, but this does not resolve the immediate crisis. The supply contract was signed in October, yet its fulfillment has been jeopardized.
'This represents significant savings for the state,' remarked Yuliia Kyrienko, commenting on the tender results.
She also posed the question: 'Who is behind this? It is 'Private Rear Operator' LLC.' The deputy emphasized the need to clarify why the contract was signed given the severe supply difficulties that emerged.
The hand warmer shortage is a critical issue, as inadequate provision risks further soldier health complications during the winter months. Authorities and military command must find solutions to ensure the safety and basic comfort of Ukrainian troops on the front lines.
This incident underscores the vital importance of reliably equipping soldiers with modern gear to maintain their health and operational effectiveness. In harsh winter conditions where frostbite risk is high, timely delivery of essential items like hand warmers becomes a matter of operational readiness. The government must take urgent action to rectify the supply chain failures and guarantee dependable deliveries of necessary materials to the military.
