Ukrainian Students to Make Up Missed Classes in Summer 2026, Says Education Ombudsman.
New Learning Opportunities in Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine's Education Ombudsman, Nadiia Leshchyk, has announced a plan for students to make up school lessons missed due to extended winter holidays. This plan involves either canceling spring break or extending the school year into June 2026. The measures are a response to an emergency situation in the energy sector, which could lead to school closures lasting until the end of January. This approach reflects the ongoing challenges to public services since Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022.
Leshchyk emphasized that rescheduling lessons to daylight hours will positively impact educational quality. She also noted that creating school-based camps could serve as an alternative to traditional learning formats during holiday periods.
Confirmation of New Rules
Furthermore, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko confirmed that winter holidays in Kyiv will be prolonged, considering the difficult situation with the power grid. Leshchyk highlighted the inefficiency of heating educational institutions attended by only a small number of students.
These decisions demonstrate the Ukrainian education system's commitment to preserving the learning process despite the challenges posed by the energy crisis. Nadiia Leshchyk
Thus, the education system has the opportunity to adapt to new conditions and ensure quality education for children even during a difficult period.
Adapting to new learning conditions requires flexibility and innovative approaches, which can significantly influence students' educational outcomes. It is important that all participants in the process, from teachers to parents, are ready for changes and support initiatives aimed at improving the quality of education in Ukraine.
