The Colombian businesswoman suspected of murdering children was recovered from the Thames in London.
According to ТСН: In London, near the Battersea Bridge, a woman was recovered from the Thames in critical condition. She was 50-year-old Colombian businesswoman Zulma Guzmán Castro, who is wanted internationally for the murder of two children.
Motive of revenge and 'sweet' dessert
Investigations revealed that Castro wanted to take revenge on her former lover, the father of one of the victims. She sent a poisoned dessert - raspberries in chocolate filled with thallium, a tasteless and odorless dangerous metal - through a courier. Thallium is extremely toxic and can be difficult to detect in the body.
The poisoning occurred with 14-year-old Inés de Bedu - the daughter of her former lover, and 13-year-old Emilia Forero - a friend of Inés. Both girls ate these treats on April 3 in Bogotá and died four days later in the hospital. Two other children, the older brother of one of the girls and her friend, were also hospitalized but survived, although the girl has chronic health problems.
Arrest and Extradition
Castro, who owned a car rental business for electric vehicles, fled Colombia after the murder. She hid in Brazil and Spain and arrived in the UK on November 11.
"Police were called to Battersea Bridge at 06:45 on Tuesday, December 16, regarding a woman in need of assistance. A marine unit of the London police pulled the approximately 50-year-old woman from the water at 07:14 and took her to the hospital, where her injuries were not considered life-threatening," a police spokesperson reported.
In addition, Colombian authorities have requested British police assistance in the arrest of Castro. The Westminster Magistrates' Court has already issued a warrant for her arrest. Once her health allows, Castro will be taken into custody. She denies her guilt.
Emilia's father, Pedro Forero, posted a touching message on social media, calling his daughter the greatest love of his life.
"She not only took my dreams and life prospects away, she took away my daughter's chance to become a professional, a wife, and a mother," the man wrote.
In his post, he also apologized to his daughter for not being able to protect her from 'this destroyed world'.
This tragic story draws public attention and points to the serious consequences of cruelty and violence. While the case is ongoing, all eyes are on the court proceedings that will decide the fate of Zulma Guzmán Castro and seek justice for the victims' families.
