Orban stated that the fall of Ukraine would be a catastrophe for Hungary.
According to ТСН: Hungary does not want Ukraine to fall, as this would create serious problems for Hungary itself.
Statements of the Hungarian Prime Minister
This opinion was expressed by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who shared his thoughts in a speech, part of which was published on social media X.
He noted that the fall of Ukraine "will be a catastrophe for Hungary." Orban emphasized:
"The fall of Ukraine will be a serious problem for Hungary. Therefore, the fall of Ukraine is not only against Hungary's interests, but we must achieve an excellent agreement to prevent this from happening."
Ukraine's stability is important for Hungary
Orban also pointed out that stability in Ukraine "is of great importance for Hungary," as the country supplies electricity and gas to Ukraine.
He stressed:
"Meanwhile, the war is weakening Ukraine every day. Peace is the only thing that can strengthen it. Anyone who truly supports Ukraine must strive for peace, and strive for it now."
Criticism of European leaders
Orban also expressed dissatisfaction with the decisions of EU leaders to finance Ukraine and questioned the facts of Russian aggression.
Discussing the war, Orban stated that European leaders, in his opinion, are guided by moral considerations in providing aid to "a country that has suffered violence," while doubting who the aggressor is.
These comments by Orban reflect the complexity of the situation in the region, where political and economic interests are closely intertwined. The importance of Ukraine's stability for neighboring countries, including Hungary, will remain critical as long as the war continues. At the same time, the statements regarding assistance to Ukraine indicate divergences in the country's approach to supporting Kyiv within the European Union.
