Alaska Airlines Passenger Tried to Open Plane Door at Altitude: What Happened.
According to ТСН: Aboard an Alaska Airlines flight in the USA, a 36-year-old passenger was accused of aggressive behavior during the flight from Dead Horse to Anchorage. According to the investigation, the man tried to open the cabin door at an altitude of about 5.49 km.
About the Incident
The incident occurred on the evening of December 10 during a 90-minute flight. Witnesses reported that the passenger was behaving strangely: he was shaking, mumbling incomprehensible things, and complaining about hallucinations. "The wings disappeared," he noted, adding that "invisible people are controlling the plane."
Passenger Behavior
The situation escalated when the man appeared to be trying to go to the bathroom but actually approached the back doors of the plane and tried to open the latch. According to the FBI, he was shouting about a need for "fresh air." Three other passengers had to physically restrain him.
Crew Response
The crew informed the pilots about the incident less than 20 minutes before landing. Although considering changing the route, the flight was not redirected. Fredericks was classified as a level two threat, indicating physical aggression.
Detention and Next Steps
Upon landing in Anchorage, the airport police met the man, and the FBI was involved in the case. According to law enforcement, the passenger calmed down and apologized to the crew. He was taken to a hospital for a medical examination.
During a conversation with medical staff, Fredericks stated that he had consumed alcohol over the past ten days, experienced visual and auditory hallucinations, and did not remember events from the last two years. It turned out that he had been taking trazodone - a medication that can cause dizziness, tremors, and confusion.
Company Response
Alaska Airlines stated that the passenger was banned from using the company's services and thanked the crew for their professionalism in this situation.
This incident serves as another reminder of how important it is to adhere to safety rules during flights. Airports and airlines continue to implement strict measures to ensure the comfort and safety of all passengers. At the same time, another incident on a KLM flight, where a plane was canceled due to a rat on board, once again underscores the importance of maintaining cleanliness standards on airlines.
