Retiree Numbers and Their Status Abroad

According to Novyny.live: During a press conference on February 11, Yevhen Kapinus, Chairman of the Board of Ukraine's Pension Fund, provided details on the country's retiree population and their conditions abroad. He stated that Ukraine currently has 10.2 million pensioners. This figure is significant as the ongoing conflict has displaced many citizens, including the elderly.

Kapinus explained that retirees who have officially declared their residence abroad are registered as living outside Ukraine. He clarified that it would be inaccurate to claim the majority of pensioners are currently in non-government-controlled territories.

"I would not say that the lion's share of them are in non-government-controlled territory today," stated Yevhen Kapinus.

Challenges Facing Ukraine's Pension Fund

Furthermore, he noted that under current circumstances, the Pension Fund no longer enforces the same strict linkage between residency and payment as it did previously.

"But I also wanted to note that in today's conditions, we do not have the same rigid link as before, where a person abroad had to transfer the corresponding payment," he explained.

Kapinus expressed hope that all identification procedures for pensioners would be finalized soon. This would allow for a definitive determination of who is residing within Ukraine, abroad, or in non-government-controlled areas.

"Today, we want to complete all identification procedures and finally determine which of our people are in the territory, which are abroad, and which are in non-government-controlled territory," he summarized.

These statements by Kapinus reflect the ongoing challenges Ukraine's Pension Fund faces amid the war and a shifting socio-economic landscape. The Fund's ability to track pensioner status is crucial for ensuring continuity of payments. A clear understanding of how many retirees are abroad or in occupied areas is essential for the Fund's financial planning and for safeguarding social protection for the elderly population.
