The petition to block Russian music on streaming platforms has gained the necessary number of votes

The petition demanding the blocking of music in the Russian language on streaming platforms in Ukraine has gained the necessary number of votes in three days. It was published on the website of the Cabinet of Ministers on February 17, and currently, more than 28 thousand users have signed it.

The authors of the petition demand the government to impose a ban on Russian-speaking music on platforms such as Apple Music, Spotify, and others. They also call for legislative initiatives to implement this ban and conduct information campaigns that promote Ukrainian music.

It is explained that Russian-speaking music may contain harmful ideas and messages for Ukrainian identity, as well as elements of Russian propaganda. The authors also assert that financing Russian-speaking music contributes to the aggressor country.

Moreover, the negative impact of Russian-speaking music on youth is emphasized: 'In the modern world, where young people actively listen to music through streaming platforms, it is important to instill the right cultural values in them. Banning Russian-speaking music can help avoid negative influences on the younger generation.'

A similar petition appeared after the songs of Russian performer Morgenshtern made it to the top-100 Ukrainian music on the Apple Music streaming platform, which caused controversy in society.

Earlier, a petition for the creation of a language police was also published on the government website.

Denys Shmyhal, responding to the petition, stated that there are currently no grounds for introducing personal sanctions against Andriy Portnov.
