In Bukovina, a Range Rover driver ran over a border guard: six offenders detained.
According to ТСН: In Bukovina, during an attempt to illegally cross the Ukrainian-Romanian border, an offender in a car injured a border guard. The injured serviceman was hospitalized with serious bodily injuries.
Details of the incident
The incident occurred when the border patrol noticed a Range Rover SUV with foreign registration heading towards the state border. The driver ignored the lawful order to stop and made a dangerous maneuver towards the servicemen.
The driver tried to break through the line of engineering-anti-tank barriers to illegally leave for Romania. During this maneuver, he ran over the border guard, causing him severe multiple injuries.
The injured was urgently taken to the hospital and operated on. According to doctors, there is currently no threat to his life.
“Later, border guards together with National Police officers found the vehicle — it was abandoned on the outskirts of one of the settlements. During the search operations, law enforcement detained six offenders who were in the car during the attempt to breach the border,” the statement said.
The SUV driver is still being sought.
Previously, a mobilized lawyer attempted to breach the border and fled to Hungary.
“The car with high beams collided with the barrier at the entrance, knocked it down, flew past the passport control booth, grazed the border guard (who is in the hospital, fortunately without fractures), and knocked down another barrier at the exit. Next — the border, Hungary,” the post of former journalist Vitalii Hlahola said.
This incident underscores security problems at the border, as attempts to illegally cross continue despite checks and patrols. Authorities are conducting an investigation and identifying individuals involved in these offenses to prevent similar cases in the future.
