The government will raise teachers' salaries by 50%: when will payments begin.
According to ТСН: The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has announced a planned phased increase in salaries for education workers, starting from January 2026. The government agreement provides for a total increase in salaries by 50% over the year, which will apply not only to school teachers but also to representatives of extracurricular, vocational, and pre-higher education.
This information was announced by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine under the leadership of Oksen Lisovyi.
Stages of Salary Increases
The salary increase process will be divided into two stages:
First stage (January 2026): teachers' salaries will increase by 30%.
Second stage (September 2026): an additional increase of 20%.
According to the ministry, this increase is one of the largest in recent years and aims to enhance the prestige of the teaching profession in Ukraine. Implementing this plan will require funds from state and local budgets, as many institutions are funded by communities. The government also presented a compensation mechanism.
Oksen Lisovyi noted that financing will be ensured through an increase in the educational subvention and other state programs that will allow communities to receive higher revenues, particularly in the form of personal income tax, to cover new labor costs.
Additionally, the new salaries will complement the existing support system for teachers working in difficult conditions. By August 2026, 10.37 billion hryvnias have already been reserved in the state budget for these purposes.
According to the information from the Ministry of Education, special payments will be received by 409 thousand workers:
2,000 hryvnias — basic payment for all teachers;
4,000 hryvnias — for those who work in-person in frontline areas.
The ministry notes that for teachers working in multiple positions, the amount of such payments will increase proportionally to their actual workload.
It should be noted that the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Yulia Svyrydenko, announced the government's decision to significantly increase payments to education workers. According to the plan, teachers' salaries will increase by 30% already in January 2026.
It was previously noted that the Rada approved the budget-2026, which includes changes to minimum wage, subsistence minimum, and teachers' salaries.
These changes are the result of the government's efforts to improve working conditions for educators, which is an important step in the development of the education sector. It is expected that salary increases will encourage young people to choose the teaching profession and reduce staffing issues in schools and other educational institutions.
