Poland's Fundraiser for Kyiv Generators Tops 1 Million Zloty in Three Days.
Poland's Support During an Energy Crisis
According to TSN.ua: In response to the energy crisis caused by Russian attacks, Poland has launched a major fundraising drive to aid Ukraine. The campaign has raised over 1 million Polish zloty in just three days to purchase generators for Kyiv, where emergency power, heating, and water supply outages are ongoing. Initially aiming to fund 100 generators, the organizers have now doubled their target to 2 million zloty. This effort highlights the severe strain on Ukraine's civilian infrastructure following targeted strikes on its power grid.
The campaign was organized by the Stand With Ukraine foundation alongside several civic groups, including:
- Euromaidan-Warszawa
- Fundacja Demokracja
- Sestry.eu
- Fundacja Otwarty Dialog
- Fundacja Polskiej Rady Biznesu
- the 'Entrepreneurs Help' initiative
Across Ukraine, more than 10,000 'Invincibility Points' have been established, with roughly 1,300 located in Kyiv. These centers provide citizens with essential services and support during power outages.
A Critical Situation in Ukraine
The humanitarian situation is being severely exacerbated by winter conditions, with nighttime temperatures in Ukraine dropping to minus 20 degrees Celsius. In Kyiv alone, over 6,000 apartment buildings have lost heating. Following an attack on the night of January 9th, indoor temperatures in some homes fell to just 10–12 degrees, underscoring the urgent need for generators. In response, a nationwide state of emergency in the energy sector has been declared, and two operational headquarters—one national and one for Kyiv—have been set up to coordinate aid and emergency response.
The situation in Ukraine, particularly in Kyiv, remains critical due to an energy crisis worsened by freezing temperatures and a lack of heating. Support from Poland and other international partners is vital as millions require urgent assistance. Mobilizing resources to purchase generators can significantly alleviate the hardship faced by civilians impacted by the war and its consequences.
Initiatives like this also serve to strengthen international solidarity with Ukraine during the ongoing conflict.
