Frontline Communities Seek State Funding to Raise Social Worker Pay by 2026.
Appeal from the Association of Frontline Cities and Communities
According to Novyny.live: The Association of Frontline Cities and Communities has formally requested that the Ukrainian Government allocate the necessary funds to increase salaries for social workers. This call to action is in response to Cabinet of Ministers Decree No. 1750, which is scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2026. Social workers are a critical pillar of support for civilians living under the immense strain of proximity to active combat, making adequate compensation for their vital services a pressing need.
Conference and Deliberations
This issue was a central topic at the Association's conference held on January 20. The gathering, which saw participation from over 300 communities, highlighted the widespread concern and unified stance of local leaders on this matter. Ihor Terekhov, a representative of the Association, stated:
"Raising salaries for social workers is the right and long-awaited step." - Ihor Terekhov
He further emphasized that the funding must be secured through state budget policy to ensure the stability and effectiveness of social services in these vulnerable regions.
The Association continues to advocate for improved working conditions for social workers, stressing that state financing is essential to guarantee dignified wages by the 2026 deadline. This initiative reflects the intent of local authorities to enhance the quality of social services in areas heavily impacted by the ongoing armed conflict. The government's response to this appeal will be a key test of its commitment to social responsibility and support for vulnerable populations during a time of national crisis.
