Finland's Foreign Minister: Ukraine's Neutrality Against Its Will Will Destroy the International System.
Finister of Foreign Affairs of Finland Elina Valtonen expressed her opinion that Ukraine's neutrality will not contribute to the resolution of the conflict with Russia due to the lack of trust in Ukraine.
I am against this, yes. Let's face the truth - Ukraine was neutral before Russia attacked it.
She also expressed disapproval of using the 'Finnish model' as a solution in the Ukrainian-Russian war. According to Valtonen, this model is not the best option for Ukraine.
Additionally, the minister doubts that Russia can be trusted, even in the case of reaching a peaceful agreement. According to her, forcing Ukraine to accept conditions against its will destroys the international system.
I really want to avoid a situation where any European country or the USA will start negotiations behind Ukraine's back. A bigger country cannot simply seize the territory and significantly weaken the sovereignty of another country.
Finland, which was once under Russian rule, gained independence in 1917. After the Soviet Union's invasion in 1939, the country was forced to maintain neutrality to preserve its independence.
Considering that the newly elected President of the United States Donald Trump seeks a quick end to the war, partners are starting to worry that Ukraine may be imposed a neutral status. Russia also demanded neutrality from Ukraine to achieve peace.
