In Shepetivka, a car was stolen with the engine running: the criminal was arrested within an hour.

According to ТСН: In Shepetivka, Khmelnytskyi region, police announced suspicion against a 25-year-old local resident, who is suspected of unlawfully taking a vehicle.

According to police information, a 21-year-old resident approached the district police department with a statement about the theft of a Renault Kangoo parked near his home. Law enforcement officers promptly started an investigation and within an hour found the stolen vehicle and identified the suspect.

Incident details

According to the investigation, the suspect took advantage of the fact that the car was left with the engine running. He got behind the wheel and set off on a trip, however, after driving about 9 kilometers, he drove off the road and crashed into a tree. As a result of the accident, the vehicle was damaged, and after the crash, the man abandoned the car and attempted to flee.

The criminal was arrested in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. It was established that he had recently been released from places of deprivation of liberty.

Legal consequences

Investigators of the Shepetivka District Police Department, with the assistance of the prosecutor's office, informed the suspect of charges under Part 2 of Article 289 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – unlawfully taking a vehicle. This article provides for a punishment of imprisonment for a term of 5 to 8 years.

During the pre-trial investigation, the court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention for the suspect.

It is reminded that the prosecutor's office of Dnipropetrovsk region has completed an investigation concerning the parents of a girl they had been abusing since she was 6 months old. They produced child pornography and committed violence against their own child. The suspects are currently in custody.
