Why Ukrainians Ignore Air Raid Sirens: A Psychologist Reveals the Key Reason.
According to Novyny.live: During wartime, many Ukrainians have developed a troubling habit of disregarding air raid warnings. According to Dr. Olena Bortnikova, a Doctor of Philosophy and director of the psychological center 'DiLenD', this behavior stems from chronic fatigue and emotional overload affecting the population. In an interview with journalist Anna Siryk, Bortnikova explained that such apathy may signal the onset of depression.
The Danger of Ignoring Air Raids
On June 14, Russian forces attacked the Dnipropetrovsk region, specifically targeting the Vasylkiv community with ten aerial bombs. Under these conditions, safety protocols are crucial. Bortnikova stressed that when a siren sounds, people should move to a shelter or at least to a safe spot following the 'two-wall rule.' She added that a persistent attitude of 'I won’t go to the shelter—if it hits, it hits' could indicate depressive symptoms, warranting professional help.

Thus, ignoring air raid warnings could point to deep-seated emotional issues, and it is vital to recognize these signals to seek timely assistance.
The Need for Psychological Support
This situation highlights the critical need for mental health support among a population enduring constant wartime stress. With ongoing conflict and security threats, understanding psychological effects like apathy and risk disregard is essential for public well-being. Experts urge people to seek help to prevent further mental health deterioration.
