Situation at CHPP-5 in Kyiv

According to TSN.ua: In Kyiv, CHPP-5 suffered serious damage due to a rocket strike, complicating the restart of the heating supply system. On January 13, Oleksiy Kucherenko reported that five rockets hit the heat and power plant. This caused significant damage that complicates the supply of heat transfer fluid.

CHPP-5 provides heating to part of the capital, and relevant services are currently assessing the extent of the destruction. The most severe situation is observed in:

  • Left Bank of Kyiv;
  • Boryspil district;
  • Brovary district.

In Irpin, water supply schedules are being introduced due to power outages. The Ministry of Energy also provided an unfavorable forecast regarding the restoration of electricity supply, which may complicate the heating situation in the city.

'It was a massive rocket strike. The damage is so serious that it is very difficult to restart the supply of heat transfer fluid,' said Oleksiy Kucherenko, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation caused by the attack on CHPP-5.

Impact on the energy system

This attack on CHPP-5 is part of a broader trend where critical infrastructure, particularly energy facilities, becomes a target during military conflicts. The damage to CHPP-5 not only complicates heating for specific areas of the capital but may also negatively impact the overall state of Ukraine's energy system, especially in the winter period.

Restoring the operation of CHPP-5 will require significant efforts from specialists and may take a long time, highlighting the importance of protecting critical infrastructure in the context of armed conflict.
