Flight to Shanghai turned around to Japan: passenger caused a scandal over a seat on the plane.
According to ТСН: An attempt to organize a "romantic" flight turned into a nervous strain for the plane's crew and many passengers. The aircraft had to change course and make an emergency landing due to a man's behavior, who insisted on sitting next to his partner.
Two hours of conflict in the sky
The incident occurred on a budget airline Spring Airlines flight, departing from Narita International Airport in Japan to Shanghai, China. The conflict began during boarding when the man demanded that another passenger swap seats with him so he could sit next to his girlfriend.
After receiving a refusal, the "romantic" man did not calm down. Crew members tried to explain to him that during the three-hour flight he had to remain in his seat, but the man's aggression only grew. According to witnesses, the argument between the furious passenger and the flight attendants lasted almost two hours after takeoff.
Four hours of flight to return to the start
Eventually, the pilot made the decision that the situation was out of control. The crew informed the Japanese authorities about the incident and made a turn when the plane was only 30 minutes away from Shanghai.
The plane returned to Narita around 11 PM, making a four-hour "flight to nowhere." The police were waiting for the offender at the airport, where he was escorted off the plane.
Sleeping on benches instead of hotels
But the trials for other travelers did not end there. Due to flight restrictions and the late hour, the flight was postponed to 10 AM the next day.
Passengers were left disappointed and exhausted. Travelers claim that the airline did not provide them with accommodation. Some had to sleep on chairs and benches in the terminal. The compensation from the carrier amounted to only about $60.
"We were very disappointed. He could have just calmed down so that everyone could reach their destination," complained one of the passengers.
It should be noted that European budget airlines are preparing to return to Ukraine, which may happen after the signing of a peace agreement and the resumption of air travel. According to low-cost forecasts, this process could lead to a tourism boom and the return of people to the country.
