Meeting of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine with the head of Rheinmetall AG
Today, September 11, Ukrainian Minister of Defense Denys Shmyhal met with the head of the German company Rheinmetall AG, Armin Papperger, during the international arms exhibition DSEI in London. This information was confirmed by Shmyhal himself, emphasizing the successful cooperation between Ukraine and Germany in the production of ammunition, armored vehicles, and air defense systems.“Since our last conversation, we have finalized the procedures for launching a new joint production. On September 9, land was allocated in a safe region of Ukraine where a new Rheinmetall shell manufacturing plant for the needs of the Defense Forces will be built,” Shmyhal said.
Further steps in cooperation
The minister also stressed the importance of projects encompassing the repair and production of armored vehicles. He noted that new developments from Rheinmetall could significantly strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities.“Mr. Papperger and I also discussed the development of the air defense direction, including joint improvements of solutions for combating enemy drones,” Shmyhal added.
According to inkorr.com: Furthermore, Rheinmetall plans to start the production of 155mm caliber artillery shells in Ukraine. The launch of the new plant is scheduled for 2026, but the project faces certain challenges in implementation.
