Families of Captured or Missing Soldiers Granted Right to Reassign Utility Subsidies.
Reassigning Benefits for Soldiers' Families
According to Novyny.live: Starting in 2026, families of Ukrainian service members who are missing in action or held as prisoners of war will be allowed to reassign their housing and utility subsidies. A single family member of the defender may receive the payment, offering financial relief amid a challenging social and economic landscape.
The procedure for reassigning these benefits is outlined in a resolution by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. The subsidies apply to:
- rent payments;
- utility services;
- purchase of solid fuel;
- liquefied gas.
This marks a key step in supporting families who have found themselves in difficult circumstances due to the loss of loved ones as a result of military action.
To reassign the benefits, applicants must provide:
- a free-form written request;
- an extract from the Unified State Register of War Veterans.
Applications can be submitted at service centers of the Pension Fund of Ukraine, local government offices, or Administrative Service Centers (TsNAPs). This streamlined process is designed to give families easier access to essential aid, allowing them to focus on urgent housing and utility needs.
Ukraine's Social Policy
This reform aims to improve living conditions for families who have lost relatives in armed conflicts, underscoring the importance of social support during these trying times.
This step carries significant weight within Ukraine's social policy framework, as supporting the families of soldiers affected by the conflict remains a state priority.
Reassigning these benefits not only eases the financial burden on these families but also highlights the government's commitment to addressing their needs amid the war. This measure could serve as a model for future initiatives targeting vulnerable groups in Ukraine.
