Russian Forces Strike Sumy, Damaging Residential and Commercial Property.
Sumy Region Targeted in Sustained Attacks
According to TSN.ua: On March 4, Russian military forces launched an assault on the city of Sumy, striking the Kovpakivskyi district. Preliminary reports indicate no casualties from this specific strike, but a multi-story apartment building's windows and a car dealership sustained damage. The city continues to experience explosions. The Sumy region, which borders Russia, has been a frequent target since the full-scale invasion began in 2022.
This attack was part of a broader barrage across Sumy Oblast, which saw 60 separate shelling incidents affecting 30 different settlements. The assault involved a wide array of weaponry, including:
- Guided aerial bombs
- Attack drones
- First-Person-View (FPV) drones
- Multiple launch rocket systems
- Artillery
- Mortars
Serhii Kryvoshieienko reported that the day's shelling had deadly consequences elsewhere in the region. In the Esman community, a 48-year-old resident was killed, and in the Sumy city community, a 37-year-old man was wounded.
These events underscore the ongoing escalation of violence in Sumy Oblast, which has repeatedly come under fire from Russian forces. The attacks not only inflict damage on civilian infrastructure but also pose a severe and constant threat to the lives and safety of local residents. The situation in the region remains tense, demanding continued attention from international organizations and humanitarian missions.
