According to CCD, Russian propagandists previously spread a fake about Ukraine refusing to retrieve its citizens from the checkpoint 'Upper Lars'. However, this information has been debunked and was not true.
CCD representatives warn that the enemy is preparing new fakes regarding prisoner exchanges, which will contain false information and calls for lies. Russians are trying to discredit the Ukrainian government and damage its reputation by spreading false claims.
Recently, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced preparations for the exchange of 1200 people between Ukraine and the Russian Federation. Since the beginning of the war, 5857 Ukrainians have returned from Russian captivity.
Russian disinformation regarding prisoner exchanges is important for Ukraine, as it highlights attempts to influence society and the political process in the country by spreading fake news. Thorough verification of information is essential to prevent the spread of disinformation and to maintain democracy in Ukraine.
