Russia was preparing a blackout for Poland: the most serious cyberattack on energy in years.
Serious cyberattack in Poland
According to TSN.ua: In Poland, at the end of December 2025, a serious cyberattack organized by Russia occurred, threatening the country’s energy infrastructure and potentially leading to a blackout. Poland's Minister of Digitalization Krzysztof Gawkowski confirmed that this was the most serious attack on energy infrastructure in recent years, particularly on thermal power plants.
The cyberattacks took place in the last days of December, and, according to Poland's Minister of Energy Miloš Motika, the command of cyber forces diagnosed the strongest attack on energy infrastructure in recent years. Motika also confirmed a failed cyberattack on electricity generation facilities, indicating the seriousness of the threats facing Poland's energy system.
International consequences of the cyberattacks
This situation raised concerns not only in Poland but also in an international context, as cyberattacks on energy infrastructure can have far-reaching consequences. At the same time, the Federal Prosecutor's Office of Germany accuses Ukrainians of espionage on behalf of Russia, highlighting the complexity and tension in the region.
The situation with cyberattacks in Poland underscores the growing threat to energy security in Europe, especially in the context of geopolitical tension between Russia and Western countries. It is important that such incidents provoke not only internal reactions but also international concern, as potential consequences could impact stability throughout the region. This case could become a catalyst for strengthening security measures and cooperation among countries in the field of cyber defense.
