Russia drops magnetic mines from 'Shaheds': a new threat to the Kovel-Kyiv railway.
Use of Shahed drones for mining
According to TSN.ua: Russian troops have begun using Shahed drones for remote mining of Ukrainian territories, particularly along the Kovel-Kyiv railway. According to expert Serhiy 'Flash' Beskrestnov, half of the drones attacking the railway in recent days are carrying magnetic mines that are being dropped into the snow.
The mine drops occurred on January 12. Reports indicate that these mines will begin to self-destruct after being dropped, creating additional risks for transport and safety in this area. The expert also noted that all mines dropped on that day may soon start to explode. Russia, according to reports, has equipped the reactive 'Shaheds' with missiles, increasing the threat to railway communication.
Consequences and security measures
The use of drones for mining indicates an increase in innovative warfare methods from Russia and could have serious consequences for the safety of transport infrastructure in Ukraine. It also highlights the necessity of strengthening security measures on important transport routes to protect civilians from new threats. The situation demands close monitoring and response from Ukrainian military and security services.
