The Disconnect Between Russia's Military Plans and Reality

According to TSN.ua: Russia's military leadership is setting unrealistic deadlines for achieving its combat objectives, which include plans to seize Ukrainian territory. According to analysts at the Institute for the Study of War, these plans do not align with the Russian army's actual capabilities. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that Russia intends to capture the remainder of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions between 2025 and 2027. However, despite these ambitious goals, the Russian military command has failed to achieve significant progress over the past four years, including in its attempt to capture Kyiv in February 2022. This pattern of overreach has been a consistent feature of the Kremlin's strategy since the full-scale invasion began.

Ukraine's Preparations for Potential Threats

Denys NosiKov, head of the 'South' Regional Territorial Defense Forces Command, has reported that Odesa is preparing for all-around defense, indicating that Ukrainian forces are actively readying for potential threats from Russian troops. The Institute for the Study of War notes that Russia's plans to continue attacks in southern Ukraine demonstrate the Kremlin's lack of interest in freezing the front line in the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. The conflict has evolved into a protracted war of attrition, where defensive preparations are critical.

Furthermore, the Russian invaders have faced significant difficulties in implementing their strategic goals, expending vast material and human resources while failing to make substantial advances. The situation is further complicated by environmental factors: sea storms are destroying concrete tetrahedrons that were installed to protect against a potential Russian amphibious assault. This highlights that not only military but also natural elements influence the course of hostilities and Ukraine's defensive capabilities.

Analysis of the current situation indicates that despite Russia's ambitious plans, the real capabilities of its military forces remain limited. Ukrainian forces, in turn, are actively preparing for potential new attacks, demonstrating their readiness for defense and adaptation to changing conditions. The influence of the natural environment remains a crucial factor, capable of significantly complicating the aggressor's actions, as has already become evident through the destructive effects of sea storms on defensive positions.
