Russia Hunts for Starlink Alternative to Control Drones Striking Deep Inside Ukraine.
Frontline Update
According to Novyny.live: Russian forces are intensifying drone strikes against military and civilian targets in Ukraine’s rear areas, hitting positions 40–50 km behind the front line. To maintain command over these unmanned systems, Moscow is urgently seeking a replacement for Starlink, testing options such as radio transmissions, fiber-optic internet, and the 'Kometa' satellite communication network. Among the drones deployed are 'Molniya' models, which Ukrainian troops are actively countering.
Over a span of three days, one Ukrainian brigade managed to destroy 100 'Molniya' drones, highlighting the effectiveness of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in neutralizing enemy aerial threats. Russia’s search for alternative communication methods underscores its struggle to keep its drone fleet operational under sustained Ukrainian pressure.
Frontline Challenges and Diplomatic Statements
The situation remains especially tense around Kupyansk and Pokrovsk, where Russian forces continue their offensive operations. As Maksym Zhorin noted,
“The Ukrainian Armed Forces’ primary objective right now must be to halt the Russian advance on the front.”This goal is critical for protecting Ukrainian territory.
Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that even a full handover of the Donbas region would not satisfy Moscow, signaling Russia’s determination to press its aggression despite Ukrainian resistance. The frontline remains volatile, with Ukrainian troops working tirelessly to repel enemy attacks.
Russia’s growing reliance on drones reflects an evolving battlefield strategy aimed at adapting to the war’s demands. At the same time, Ukraine’s success in downing 'Molniya' drones demonstrates its ability to counter new threats effectively. The heightened activity around Kupyansk and Pokrovsk shows that the frontline situation is critical for both sides, while Moscow’s diplomatic rhetoric confirms its intent to prolong the conflict.
