Trump and Putin discussed peace in Ukraine: what is known about the negotiations

Peace negotiations aimed at achieving peace in Ukraine have intensified following a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Putin in Alaska. The primary focus now is on preparing for a trilateral summit involving Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia, and on providing security guarantees for Kyiv. Political scientist and Americanist Oleksandra Filippenko discussed this on the FREEДОМ channel.

'In the last two weeks, there have been more advancements in the negotiations. They may be liked or disliked, but they exist. For Donald Trump, it was important to have a personal conversation with Vladimir Putin. After all, the U.S. president is used to relying on personal relationships and has always felt that a breakthrough could happen. As we can see, that breakthrough did not occur. There was no ceasefire during the meeting in Alaska, and furthermore, this meeting was shortened in time. European leaders and representatives from the Trump administration advised him against meeting with Putin. But Trump insisted on it and saw that personal diplomacy does not work,' she noted.

In recent days, discussions at all levels have focused on ending the war, providing security guarantees for Ukraine, and other crucial aspects of establishing peace.

'In Alaska, various issues were discussed, but clearly not as successfully as Donald Trump and other European leaders currently show us. However, this meeting was still important for Donald Trump. It was important for him to do things as he is used to doing, as he is accustomed to working. Accordingly, this also led to some degree of advancement. Perhaps it will lead to a trilateral meeting, which Donald Trump has mentioned several times during his communication with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and during talks with European leaders,' Filippenko speculated.

It should be noted, on August 18, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made an official visit to Washington, where he met with President Donald Trump. Leaders of several major European countries also arrived in Washington.

The post on the negotiations to end the war in Ukraine shows progress, - the political scientist appeared first on Freedom.

Ukraine continues to actively work on a truce and the peaceful resolution of the conflict in the east of the country. Negotiations between world leaders and political analysts indicate some progress in this direction, but the final outcomes remain open for discussion and agreement.
