Military Hospital Draft Dodging Scheme Uncovered by Ukrainian Security Service, Senior Official Arrested.
Draft Evasion Scheme Dismantled at Military Hospital
According to TSN.ua: Ukrainian authorities have shut down a criminal network that was helping men avoid military conscription through a major military hospital. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Prosecutor General's Office conducted the operation, arresting a high-ranking official at the Main Military Hospital of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for fraudulently enlisting his acquaintances.
Investigators found that a department head responsible for the hospital's security and defense organization was a key participant. Since May 2022, this official has allegedly received approximately 2.6 million hryvnias for his illicit services. He now faces a potential prison sentence of up to 12 years, along with the confiscation of his property.
This crackdown comes as Ukraine continues its defense against the full-scale Russian invasion, making the integrity of its mobilization system a critical national security issue. Two individuals who used the official's services have already been charged with draft evasion. Furthermore, the director of the "Chernihiv Bread Factory No. 2" is implicated for fictitiously employing seven men to shield them from the draft. A court has fined her 499,800 hryvnias, and she is required to transfer an additional 500,000 hryvnias to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Critical Fight Against Corruption
This case underscores the ongoing necessity of combating corruption and military service evasion in Ukraine, especially during a prolonged war. The exposed violations are likely to prompt stricter oversight of similar schemes to ensure a fair mobilization process and robust support for the country's defense forces.
Ukrainian authorities remain committed to identifying and eliminating corruption networks that threaten national security.
