The Odesa court sentenced the parents of an infant whose body was found in a freezer.
According to ТСН: In Odesa, the court handed down a verdict to the parents of a boy who was only 1 year and 3 months old, whose body was discovered in a freezer.
The court's verdict
According to information from the Odesa regional prosecutor's office, the boy's mother was sentenced to 9 years and 8 months in prison, while her partner received 9 years and 10 months. This punishment was a result of the charges under Part 3 of Article 135. Both parents, an 18-year-old mother and a 44-year-old partner with a criminal past, failed to take necessary steps to provide medical assistance, resulting in the child suffering severe burns.
Tragedy and its consequences
Due to the lack of medical assistance, the child's condition rapidly deteriorated: the little boy began to have serious breathing issues and lost consciousness. To hide this horrific situation, the man wrapped the child's body in film and concealed it in the freezer. Law enforcement discovered the body during a check.
The trial
Despite the fact that the accused did not admit their guilt during the trial, the evidence provided by the prosecutors, the results of investigations, and witness testimonies confirmed their involvement in the crime.
Next steps
Until the verdict takes effect, the accused will remain in custody.
Additionally, in the Sumy region, the parents of a two-month-old infant are also facing court in connection with the death of their child, and they face up to five years in prison.
This tragedy highlights a serious issue of failure to fulfill parental responsibilities, which can lead to irreversible consequences. Laws attempt to respond to such cases, as the safety of children must be a priority for society.
