How many wounded soldiers return to duty? Answer from the Medical Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Over 70% of injured and wounded servicemen return to duty after treatment. This was reported in an interview with Ukrinform by the commander of the Medical Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Anatoliy Kazmirchuk.

According to our data, over 70% of the wounded and injured return to duty. These are average statistics. After all, you understand that the numbers can vary in different directions of the front. We can say that these 70% of servicemen, in essence, form the backbone and foundation of the military contingent,” said Kazmirchuk.

He noted that this is extremely important because servicemen who have already served, after being wounded and returning to duty, can pass on their experience to their comrades.

This allows, for example, not to search for a new mobilization resource, but to use trained personnel. It is well known that a serviceman who joined by contract or mobilization must undergo basic general military training, which includes military medical training, at a training center,” said the commander.

According to Kazmirchuk, to improve the skills of combat medics, an online course on tactical medicine was initiated, presenting a program for training a combat medic according to MARCH-PAWS algorithms.

This course is popular, especially among tactical medicine instructors. Some of the skills published are also suitable for servicemen undergoing basic military training. For example, self-help under fire (direct threat zone) and self-/mutual assistance in tactical cover (indirect threat zone), noted Kazmirchuk.

Of course, the video format is designed only to reinforce already acquired skills and their repetition, but in this way, we make skill acquisition more accessible for every serviceman,” said the commander, adding that the priority task of the command is to ensure that every serviceman is trained, whether as a regular mobilized soldier or a combat medic.

Earlier, Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Natalia Kalmikova stated that more than 75% of wounded defenders return to service after rehabilitation. Kalmikova also noted that today almost every healthcare facility has multidisciplinary teams (specialists providing rehabilitation services) and rehabilitation capabilities.

By the way, by the end of the year, the Ministry of Defense together with the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine should deploy a medical information system in military units.
