According to ТСН: The Desnyansky District Court of Chernihiv chose a preventive measure for the police officer who hit a 6-year-old girl in Prylyky with a service vehicle. The woman will be held in custody for 60 days with the possibility of bail amounting to 242 thousand hryvnias.

During the court session, the police officer stated that she was responding to a call related to an accident, and her vehicle had its emergency lights on. She claimed that she honked the horn three times.

According to her testimony, in response to a question from the judge, she confirmed that she used the signal. At the same time, she explained that sometimes people do not react to sound signals when responding to a call, and short sound signals are perceived better.

Positions of the parties

The head of the Chernihiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, Serhiy Deineka, demanded that a preventive measure be chosen in the form of detention without the possibility of bail, believing that the detained person might hide or influence witnesses. Meanwhile, the detained person's defense lawyer, Lesya Verteletska, requested a milder preventive measure – house arrest.

“Detention has been imposed because suspicion is justified, and, considering the circumstances of the case, there are risks cited by the prosecution. However, these risks are not so likely as to prohibit you from posting bail. Bail in the determined amount will ensure the fulfillment of these risks and guarantee proper procedural behavior,” explained Judge Bohdan Kravynny’s court decision.

Deineka also noted that the prosecution is likely to appeal.

Recall that on December 10, a police service vehicle hit two people at a pedestrian crossing in Prylyky. As a result of this incident, a child died, and a woman was injured. According to preliminary police data, the unit was responding to a call with lights on, but witnesses claim that the vehicle was moving without signals and trying to overtake a truck. The leadership of the National Police initiated an internal investigation, and the police officers were suspended from duty.

This situation has raised wide public resonance, as road safety and the work of law enforcement are always in the spotlight. It is expected that the further development of events, including court sessions and a possible appeal by the prosecution, will become an important stage in this case, which requires clear clarity and justice.
