What Trump's peace agreement for Ukraine entails: CNN version.
According to CNN, a peace agreement between Ukraine and the Russian Federation mediated by Donald Trump could include the transfer of Crimea to Russia in exchange for the return of some occupied territories in eastern Ukraine.
Trump announced a ceasefire in just one day, but a new military aid program for Ukraine is being delayed due to uncertainties in the Republican Congress. CNN outlines the general principles of the peace agreement that could be signed by the Russian Federation and Ukraine with Trump's mediation.
Russia will receive Crimea, while Ukraine will acquire part of the territories in the east. Ukraine will not join NATO but will have security guarantees from the U.S., similar to the guarantees Japan receives. This agreement will not satisfy either the Russians or the Ukrainians, but the alternative is eternal war, in which many people have died on both sides.
Furthermore, there is another issue regarding Trump’s position on NATO. While it will be difficult for him to withdraw the U.S. from the Commonwealth, his public statements may undermine the principle of collective defense of the alliance.
CNN emphasizes that such actions by Russia could lead to an escalation of its aggression in Europe, where Russia is engaged in hybrid attacks on the territories of NATO allies, interfering with their democracy and sabotaging their industries.
With Trump’s close relationship with Putin, Russia feels empowered and continues its aggressive policies, knowing that Trump may not respond.
Donald Trump mentioned that the war between Ukraine and the Russian Federation needs to end, and his administration will focus on this issue. He expressed condolences for the casualties of the war and stated that it does not matter who dies – soldiers or civilians.
Former Polish President Andrzej Duda stated that Trump would not allow the Russian Federation to destroy Ukraine, as he is responsible to American taxpayers who fund aid to Ukraine.
The Wall Street Journal believes that Ukraine will not defeat the Russian Federation in the war but will also not suffer defeat due to Biden's limitations on defensive measures.
President Zelensky believes that Trump genuinely wants to end the war in Ukraine, but the realization of this depends on Putin, who is trying to tear the country apart.
