Lithium-ion Batteries and Pets: Fire Department Warns of Danger.
According to ТСН: Pet owners received an important warning after an incident in Canada where a dog accidentally started a fire by chewing on a glove with a lithium-ion battery.
A camera set up to monitor pets captured the moment when the dog was playing with the glove on the couch and then got scared when it began to smoke. The dog jumped back, but the glove did not stop—it continued to smoke until it eventually caught fire. The flames quickly engulfed the couch.
Firefighters responded promptly to the call and, fortunately, quickly extinguished the fire and saved the animal. The video of the incident went viral on social media, garnering over 1.6 million views.
Safety Tips
A fire department representative provided an important note:
“Damaged lithium-ion batteries can cause fires. Keep battery-operated devices in a safe place, away from pets and children, and discontinue use of any batteries that show signs of damage, swelling, or overheating.”
Additionally, do not forget to monitor your dogs' emotional state and be able to prevent their frustration.
This incident highlights the importance of handling electronic devices cautiously, especially when pets are nearby. For pet owners, this is another reason to review safety habits in the home to avoid similar incidents in the future.
