Former President of Poland: "Forget about a fair peace with Russia".
According to ТСН: Alexander Kwasniewski, who served as President of Poland from 1995 to 2005, believes that the idea of achieving a "just and lasting" peace in Ukraine is unlikely.
Resetting relations and peace talks
Kwasniewski noted that the so-called reset of relations between the West and Russia that occurred during Barack Obama's presidency was "naive." He believes that the West could have done more, especially at the end of Boris Yeltsin's rule.
The former president emphasized the importance of peace negotiations, noting that both sides have an interest in a ceasefire.
"Ukrainians (are interested in negotiations — Ed.), as their human resources are exhausted, while the Russians want to buy time, reorganize, produce more ammunition and train North Koreans. But a lasting and fair peace… Let's forget about it. While Russia continues its imperial policy, Ukraine is irreplaceable for them as a part of 'Greater Russia.'" he stated outright.
Forecasts for the future
Kwasniewski believes that any ceasefire will be short-term, and the Russians may try to influence presidential elections in Ukraine.
"The chance that we will see significant changes in Russia's domestic policy after Putin is very small, I would say, non-existent at all," said the Pole.
Earlier, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk also expressed concern about the situation in Ukraine, emphasizing that the political atmosphere requires careful monitoring by the international community.
