USA gradually losing its role of global leadership in security — Political Scientist.
Regardless of who wins the elections in the USA, Donald Trump or Kamala Harris, it is evident that the role of US global leadership in the sphere of security will diminish. It's not that the States are becoming weaker, but rather because the world system is changing.
This was discussed by political scientist Olesya Yakhno on the FREEdom TV channel's broadcast.
"Large entities are emerging in other regions with substantial economies. For example, China and India. The interests of many countries are changing even within unified organizations. For instance, a classic example is Turkey. The country is a member of NATO, but it has a different position compared to other NATO countries regarding actions in the Middle East. This is very noticeable. It also has a different stance toward Russia. Yes, Turkey is unequivocally on the side of Ukraine in terms of security, but at the same Time, it maintains economic relations with Russia. In this sense, the expansion of interests still gives rise to regional unions and interest groups within alliances. Therefore, indeed, the role of the USA will objectively decrease due to the emergence of other entities," noted Yakhno.
According to her, during this period, it is very important to establish a definition in several important directions. One of them is the security of Europe, which has traditionally accustomed itself to rely on many actions of the USA.
"In this regard, the pace and volume of how the balance of forces can change, and leadership itself will largely depend on the figure of the president, on what the policy of the future presidential administration will be. Everyone is probably expecting this self-determination and greater clarity in policy on several fronts. Regarding Kamala Harris, much will likely depend on who enters her team if she wins, who will be directly responsible for the security sphere, and policies in Europe. In the case of Donald Trump, the main attention, it seems to me, will be focused on whether this bravado of being able to end the war quickly can transform into real proposals. Not at the expense of the interests of Ukraine or those countries threatened by authoritarian regimes, but through a systematic approach that would demonstrate precisely the strength of democracy, not autocracy," concluded Olesya Yakhno.
