US Accuses Allies of Failing to Reciprocate Support: Tensions Surface at G7 Summit.
Allied Stance at the G7 Meeting
According to TSN.ua: At the G7 foreign ministers' summit held in France, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio voiced frustration over the lack of allied support for American efforts in the wars in Ukraine and Iran. Rubio pointed out that while Washington frequently reaches out for assistance, it has received no positive responses when it needed backing in return.
Actions and Reactions from Allies
During the summit, Donald Trump urged the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, while European governments declared their willingness to join such efforts only if hostilities cease. Germany's Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul emphasized that Berlin had not received clear requests from Washington for specific actions.
“Currently, the legal prerequisites for us to undertake such an operation are not met. And there is no concrete request for us to take measures at this time,” - Johann Wadephul.
Meanwhile, French Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pascal Confavre highlighted that planning for the protection of the Strait of Hormuz is ongoing.
“We are preparing this mission with all willing partners. But we have made it clear that this war is not our war, and we do not want to get involved,” - Pascal Confavre.
Thus, the allies' position on supporting U.S. efforts remains ambiguous, and their readiness to act hinges on certain conditions.
These developments underscore a growing divergence in how the U.S. and its allies perceive international obligations, potentially affecting future collaboration on global security issues. As some European nations express caution about engaging in conflicts, their decisions may be shaped by domestic political factors and the broader international landscape.
