New Course Lets Ukrainian Students Skip Military Draft Offices.
Launch of a New Academic Subject
According to Novyny.live: Starting soon, Ukrainian colleges and universities will offer a mandatory course called 'Fundamentals of National Resistance.' This change follows the passage of the law 'On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts Regarding Specific Issues of Preparation for National Resistance,' which was adopted on March 25. A key feature of this program is that students enrolled in it will not be required to report to Territorial Centers for Recruitment and Social Support (TCCs and SPs).
Key Details of the Course
The 'Fundamentals of National Resistance' course will be taught in specialized colleges and universities. Students with special educational needs will have the option to study the subject using a different methodology. Currently, the basic military training component, which accounts for ten ECTS credits, covers over 71,000 university students who are completing the theoretical part. Of these, 3,000 female students have voluntarily joined the training, and 47,000 students across 230 institutions have already finished the theoretical portion.
'With the adoption of this law, we are introducing the discipline 'Fundamentals of National Resistance' in universities and specialized colleges,' said Oksen Lisovyi, Minister of Education and Science.
Under the new requirements, students will not need to:
- take a military oath,
- undergo a medical examination,
- report to TCCs and SPs,
- spend time at Defense Forces training grounds,
- acquire a military registration specialty,
- or obtain the status of a conscript.
These changes to the educational process aim to enhance youth preparedness for national resistance, a critical priority given the current security environment. The introduction of 'Fundamentals of National Resistance' reflects the Ukrainian government's efforts to boost young people's readiness for the challenges facing the country, especially amid the ongoing armed conflict. Including this program in educational institutions also underscores the importance of military and patriotic education in shaping civic consciousness. Given current security challenges, this initiative could become a vital component of Ukraine's national security system.
