Evaluation Categories

Passengers assessed airports across 10 categories, including customer service, baggage waiting times, security queues, seating availability, and the range of shops and dining options.

Exeter Airport in Devon emerged as the leader with an overall rating of 80%. It received five stars in five categories, while the lowest rating was three stars for the variety and quality of shops and dining establishments.

“Exeter offers a relaxing and stress-free travel experience, which is a pleasant change from larger airports,” shared one passenger's impressions when speaking with Which?

Exeter Airport is one of the smaller ones in the UK, serving about 500,000 passengers annually, while London Heathrow serves 84 million.

Other smaller airports are also ranked highly: following Exeter is Liverpool John Lennon Airport with over 5 million passengers per year, then London City, as well as airports in Bournemouth, Newcastle, and Norwich.

Worst Airport Ratings

The worst rating went to Manchester Airport, Terminal 3, with a score of 43%. It received only one star for queues, seating availability, and pricing of goods in shops, as well as for the quality of shops and dining establishments.

Some passengers complained that the terminal couldn't handle the flow of people, making it sometimes difficult to find something to eat or to sit down.
