According to ТСН: In Pryluky, Chernihiv region, a nine-month-old boy named Zakhar drowned while bathing in a bathtub. His mother, Valeriya Krush, claims that the tragedy occurred due to a faulty clasp on the swimming circle she received in the "Baby Package". Currently, the police are investigating the incident as an accident and severe neglect of parental duties.

The tragedy occurred at home on December 17. The police of Chernihiv region reported that law enforcement officials from the Pryluky district department are determining the causes and circumstances of the boy's death.

The family's story where the tragedy occurred

Valeriya, the mother of the infant, hails from Cherkasy. About ten years ago, she moved with her mother and brothers to the village of Kuty in Chernihiv region. Here, Valeriya began living with a local resident, Serhiy Mostovyi, by whom she has a nine-year-old son.

In August 2024, Serhiy was mobilized into the Armed Forces, and since January of this year, he was considered missing. The family learned about his death only nine months later, and he was buried on October 20. Valeriya is struggling to cope with this loss.

“My first husband abused me, and I lost my first child at 3-4 months of pregnancy. I left him and met my second husband — Yuriy Krush. He is 49 years old and has a 15-year-old daughter from a previous marriage. We have been married for almost a year. Our son Zakhar was born. We were planning to have a sister for him, and I got pregnant again,” Valeriya shared.

Details of the infant's death in Pryluky

Valeriya shared the details of the tragedy. That day, she was bathing Zakhar in the tub, using a child’s swimming ring. She notes that the ring had been in their use for a long time, and everything had been safe before.

“We played for 30 minutes, then the cat started breaking dishes. I left for a few seconds, and when I returned — the baby was already under the water, and the ring was on the surface. The clasp had come apart, even though I checked it. I pulled my son out and tried to resuscitate him. I knew I had to turn the baby over; I did everything I could. I called an ambulance, which took about 15 minutes to arrive. I continued to perform artificial respiration until the medics arrived,” Valeriya recounted.

Unfortunately, despite the resuscitation efforts, they could not save Zakhar.

She added that she informed her husband about the tragedy, and Yuriy returned from service. The parents buried their son on December 19.

Valeriya noted that her husband does not blame her for the loss of Zakhar; on the contrary, he supports her. She also mentioned that due to her distress, she faces a risk of miscarriage, and the doctors planned to hospitalize her, but she refused, as she needed to bury her son.

The police investigators entered information about the incident into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations, qualifying it as a murder with a note of "accident", as well as under the article on severe neglect of parental duties.

It should be noted that recently in Pryluky, other tragic incidents have occurred, including the arrest of a police officer who hit a 6-year-old girl in a car accident. These events draw attention to safety and accountability issues in society.
