The energy system of Ukraine is under threat: is a blackout possible in any city

According to ТСН: Currently, all Ukrainian cities are at risk of prolonged power outages. Even the most modern air defense system is unable to ensure complete safety during massive attacks by the enemy on a small area.

The situation in Ukraine

This information was announced by a member of the Verkhovna Rada, head of the energy subcommittee Serhiy Nahorniak in a conversation with 'Telegraf'.

According to him, the situation that occurred in Odesa could be repeated in any large city in Ukraine if enemy attacks become critically intense.

'Absolutely any Ukrainian city is at risk today if the attack is of such intensity. Not only Ukrainian but any European city, even NATO countries, will not be able to fend off such a number of air targets if they are concentrated in a small region in a short period of time — overnight or even in six to eight hours. It is unrealistic to fend this off,' emphasized Nahorniak.

Comments and realities

Commenting on information in international media about a possible collapse of Ukraine's energy network, the deputy noted that such news often pursues political goals and does not always reflect reality.

'Last year, one British publication reported that no protective structures had been built in Ukraine and we were facing a total blackout. This information was completely inaccurate. Yes, we have issues with the construction of protective structures of the second and third levels, but despite this, we have a high degree of readiness,' noted the MP.

Nahorniak assured that, despite potential threats from Russia, the enemy has not been able to achieve its main goal — to completely de-electrify Ukraine.

'We see that after enemy attacks, Russia cannot achieve its goal — to de-electrify the entire country and plunge Ukraine into blackout. We have prolonged power outages, but these are not blackouts, just consumption limits. 'Ukrenergo' balances the system through disconnections of different categories of consumers. There is no such thing as a region being without electricity for weeks,' concluded Serhiy Nahorniak.

Recovery in Odesa

He also noted that even the regions most affected, such as Chernihiv region, are recovering quickly, and electricity supply is restored within a few days.

It is worth mentioning that in Odesa and the region, work continues to eliminate the consequences of a massive enemy attack. Despite significant damage to the energy infrastructure, power supply has already been restored to almost 600 thousand consumers, although more than 30 thousand households still remain without electricity.

In some areas, there is still a lack of water and heating, but some problems have already been resolved, and water delivery points are operating. Occupiers are trying to use domestic difficulties for propaganda, but residents maintain their principled position, and volunteers and international organizations continue to provide assistance to the affected.
