Plastic surgeon damaged patient's nerve: a suspect has been announced in Kyiv.
According to ТСН: In Kyiv, law enforcement has announced a suspicion against the director of a clinic in Pechersk, who is also a plastic surgeon, due to the disfigurement of a patient's face.
It has been established that a 39-year-old woman suffered facial injury during a brow-lift and rhinoplasty surgery that took place in April 2023. She paid 7,200 euros for this procedure.
"The forensic examination conducted within the investigation established that the plastic surgeon during the operation damaged a nerve in the left frontal-temporal area, leading to reduced sensitivity and effectively paralysis of the left side of the patient's face," the statement reads.
Investigators, under the procedural guidance of the Pechersk District Prosecutor's Office, announced a suspicion to the 34-year-old man under Part 1 of Article 140 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — improper performance of a medical professional's duties due to negligent attitude towards them, resulting in serious consequences.
According to this article, the punishment may involve imprisonment for up to two years with the possibility of disqualification from holding certain positions or engaging in specific activities for up to five years.
Rhinoplasty is one of the most complicated operations in surgery, as during its conduct, the surgeon must reconcile three different types of tissues: bone, cartilage, and covering (skin and subcutaneous tissues). Moreover, the area of the nose cannot be "hidden" by clothing or hair, so mistakes in this field can lead to serious psychological problems, sometimes even with tragic consequences.
The investigation process is ongoing, and it is crucial for law enforcement to ensure a proper investigation of this case. The issue of professional accountability of medical workers, especially in the field of plastic surgery, remains relevant in society as it affects the lives of patients and their self-perception.Read also
