Tragedy Strikes at 'Na Rogakh' Eco-Park

According to TSN.ua: A poacher has shot and killed a champion deer named Runy in the 'Na Rogakh' eco-park, located in the Kyiv region. Runy held the international 'Golden Horns' title and was officially recognized by the CIC (International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation) as having the largest antlers in Ukraine. The antlers measured 84 cm on the left side and 87 cm on the right. The CIC is a major international body for wildlife conservation and hunting standards, underscoring the significance of this loss.

Runy's death has sparked outrage among activists demanding justice. Serhiy Boyarchukov, a representative of the ecological community, stated that this was a profound loss:

"This is not simply the death of an animal." - Serhiy Boyarchukov

He further emphasized that the poacher "killed the bearer of unique genetics and the hope of our cause, but we will persevere."

The animal rights organization UAnimals also voiced its protest, declaring:

"This is simply savage, there are no words. We are already preparing a statement for the police to ensure this killing does not go unpunished. The guilty must be held accountable under the law!" - UAnimals

Activists are urging police to find the culprit and calling for stricter penalties for poaching.

A Broader Call for Wildlife Protection

This tragic incident highlights concerns beyond the death of Runy, pointing to wider issues in wildlife protection across Ukraine. Runy's killing has reignited discussions on poaching and the urgent need to safeguard rare animal species. Against a backdrop of increasing threats to wildlife, activists are advocating for stricter preventative measures and greater public awareness about the critical importance of preserving biodiversity.
