Russia criticizes Ukraine's amendments to the US plan: why the Kremlin opposes new negotiations.
According to ТСН: Russia has once again criticized European countries and Ukraine for attempts to amend American proposals regarding the cessation of war. The Kremlin believes these actions allegedly do not contribute to achieving peace and may only prolong the conflict.
Comments from Russian officials
Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation for foreign policy Yuri Ushakov noted:
“I am confident that the proposals that Europeans and Ukrainians have submitted or are trying to submit certainly do not improve the document and do not increase the likelihood of achieving long-term peace”
Ushakov also emphasized that he has not seen specific formulations, and his words are not a prediction.
The situation in Ukraine
Meanwhile, hostilities continue in Ukraine. Ukrainian troops successfully repel attempts by Russian forces to break into the village of Hrabovske in the Sumy region. In addition, the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights reported the forced relocation of about 50 residents of this locality to Russian territory.
Diplomatic efforts
Despite Kremlin statements, diplomatic contacts are ongoing. Representatives of the team of U.S. President Donald Trump, including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, held negotiations with Russian representative Kirill Dmitriev in the U.S.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky claims that diplomatic efforts are progressing quite rapidly, and the Ukrainian delegation in Florida is actively cooperating with American and European partners.
Witkoff reported that three days of negotiations involving representatives from the U.S., Europe, and Ukraine were “productive and constructive,” with particular attention to timelines and the sequence of further actions.
However, the Kremlin stated that the issue of tripartite negotiations between Russia, the U.S., and Ukraine is currently not being considered seriously.
Earlier, Russian officials stated that the issue of Ukraine should not affect bilateral relations with the U.S.
Thus, tensions between Russia and the West remain high despite attempts at diplomatic contacts. At the same time, the situation on the front remains critical, underscoring the importance of finding an effective solution to end the conflict.
