Eight Poisoned in Poltava Region, Including Four Children.
Poltava Poisoning Incident on February 8
According to TSN.ua: On February 8, eight people, four of them children, were poisoned in separate incidents across the city of Poltava and the surrounding region. In the village of Shmyhli, located within the Shcherbanivska community, four individuals, two of whom were children, suffered poisoning. A separate case was recorded in the Shevchenkivskyi district of the city, where an adult and a child were also poisoned.
In a third incident, a woman born in 1955 and her underage relative, born in 2010, were hospitalized in the Podilskyi district of Poltava due to carbon monoxide poisoning from household gas. These alarming events follow three fatal poisonings from an unknown substance recorded in the Poltava region in late January 2026. In response, a pre-trial investigation has been initiated under Article 115 (intentional homicide) of Ukraine's Criminal Code. The frequency of these incidents has caused significant concern among local residents and authorities. This comes amid a broader regional pattern of similar poisonings, which are currently under active investigation.
Regional Poisoning Concerns
The cluster of poisonings in Poltava is deeply troubling, given the number of victims and the severe impact on children. Over recent months, the region has seen a concerning rise in such cases, highlighting an urgent need for stricter safety controls over food supplies and household utilities. Thorough investigation and research are critical to identify the root causes of these poisonings and implement measures to prevent future tragedies.
