Lukoil Refinery in Volgograd Hit by Drone Strike, Igniting Storage Tanks.
Explosions Rock Volgograd
According to TSN.ua: A series of explosions struck the city of Volgograd in the early hours of February 11. The regional governor confirmed a drone attack on the Lukoil-Volgogradneftepererabotka oil refinery, located in the Krasnoarmeysky district. The assault ignited a fire at the facility, which is the largest oil processing plant in the region.
The Lukoil-Volgogradneftepererabotka refinery, located at 55 40 Let VLKSM Street, processes over 15 million tons of oil annually. This incident marks at least the ninth attack on a Russian refinery since the start of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine. The same facility had previously been targeted in February 2024 and multiple times in 2025, specifically in January, February, March, August, and November.
Refinery Attacks and Their Consequences
It is worth noting that on January 26, drones also attacked an oil refinery in Slavyansk-na-Kubani, resulting in one person sustaining minor injuries. The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed to have shot down 40 drones, 34 of which were reportedly over the Krasnodar region.
The attack on the Lukoil refinery: what is known.
LLC Lukoil-Volgogradneftepererabotka specializes in producing gasoline, diesel and aviation fuel, fuel oil, bitumen, and other petroleum products. This incident has raised concerns among the local population and industry experts, as attacks on critical infrastructure can have serious consequences for the regional economy. These strikes are part of a broader campaign targeting Russia's energy export capabilities.
The attack on the Volgograd refinery underscores the growing threat to critical infrastructure amid the ongoing conflict. Repeated strikes on such facilities could lead to significant disruptions in the supply of petroleum products, which may, in turn, negatively impact the region's economic stability. Such incidents also highlight a shift in military tactics, where drones have become a key instrument in operations, demonstrating the vulnerability of industrial assets far from the front lines.
