Ukraine’s Scheduled Power Cuts

According to TSN.ua: Starting March 16, Ukraine will reinstate planned electricity outages and impose capacity limits for industrial users between 5:00 PM and 10:00 PM. These measures stem from damage to the national power grid caused by Russian missile and drone strikes, which have destabilized the energy supply. The country’s energy infrastructure has faced repeated attacks, making these restrictions necessary to prevent a total system collapse.

Regional Breakdown of Outages

Schedules for the blackouts will be posted on the website and chatbot of DTEK Kyiv Electric Grids. In Kyiv Oblast, customers in groups 1.2 and 5.1 may lose power. In Lviv Oblast, electricity will be cut to two subgroups of consumers. Sumy Oblast will see restrictions affecting three subgroups, and Dnipropetrovsk Oblast also plans outages for three subgroups.

  • In Zaporizhzhia Oblast, power will be shut off to two subgroups: group 1.1 from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM, and group 5.2 from 7:00 PM to 10:30 PM.
  • In Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, three subgroups of consumers will face outages lasting 1.5 to 2 hours.
  • In Volyn Oblast, power consumption limits will apply to two subgroups.
  • In Odesa Oblast, restrictions will impact three subgroups for 1.5 to 2 hours.

These scheduled blackouts are a critical step to maintain grid stability under current conditions. Residents are urged to monitor official channels for the latest updates on outages.

The reintroduction of these measures highlights the severe strain on Ukraine’s energy system, which has suffered extensive damage from ongoing hostilities. With limited resources and persistent threats, balancing electricity consumption with reliable supply has become a daily challenge. Both citizens and businesses should prepare for potential changes in power availability and actively seek ways to reduce energy usage.
